Metallica's James Hetfield has been working with the Marin Agricultural Land Trust to conserve some space in Marin County. According to the , last fall the singer and his wife gave 240 acres of their Lucas Valley property for an agricultural conservation easement, following similar actions in 2005 and 2009 which saw them donate 440 acres and 330 acres to the district during those instances.

Now, with their latest action approved by the county board of supervisors, the Hetfield family has officially given over 1,000 acres of property to the Marin Agricultural Land Trust, which can be preserved as farmland or developed as an open space for recreational activity.

Last fall, the Hetfield family issued a statement saying, "Our family is very happy to work with MCOSD and MALT on re-establishing agriculture and maintaining the scenic corridor of the ranch. We believe this is a huge community benefit, and one of our goals is to keep agriculture on the ranch for a very long time.” Hetfield initially purchased 1,150 acres of land in a rural portion of Lucas Valley in 1999.

The singer will have plenty of time split between his home and the road this year as Metallica recently announced more dates for their WorldWired Tour. The veteran band will be busy for months, but appear to have booked mostly two-week stints throughout their trek. See their scheduled dates .
